In January of 2013, Team Mica Fund created a West Tennessee Task Force that targeted Chester, Gibson, Hardeman and Madison counties. The goal was to reduce the number of suicides in these counties and support the State of Tennessee’s Zero Suicide Initiative. While this task force is no longer active, we did make a difference until 2019.
On average, rural areas of Tennessee experience a suicide rate 12% higher than metropolitan and urban areas due to lower levels of social integration and reduced availability / access to public and mental health resources.
